Hammett, ID (December 5, 2021) – Today in Elmore County, a Union Pacific train has derailed.
The train derailed around 1:30 a.m. Sunday (west of the community of Hammett), according to a spokesperson working with the rail company. A total of 28 cars fell off the tracks and no injuries were reported.
Officials say that “Union Pacific crews are on-site, and cleanup work has begun,” they continued by saying, “The track is not open to train traffic and has been shut down.”
No cause has been announced, but it is currently under investigation.
