Ritzville, WA (April 1, 2022)- Charges are pending for two reckless drivers who were involved in a crash on State Route 102 (Dayton Airport Road) Friday morning, Washington State Patrol said.
Their cars were driving at high speeds before crashing near the Washington Corrections Center in Shelton.
Both vehicles were westbound around 12:30 a.m. when the crash occurred.
A 44-year-old Shelton woman lost control of her vehicle due to “excessive speed,” veered off the roadway, and hit several trees in the process before her car came to rest on its top.
Then, another driver, a 27-year-old Inchelium man, who was driving at an “extremely high rate,” swerved to avoid a collision with the woman’s vehicle, lost control of his car, and hit a tree.
The woman was rushed to Mason General Hospital in Shelton and later to St. Joseph Medical Center in Tacoma.
The man was injured but there was no information about his treatment or hospitalization.
WSP said in a memo that drugs or alcohol were involved and listed the cause of the crash as “reckless driving,” while charges were marked as “pending” next to each driver.
The two vehicles involved in the accident were totaled while the highway was closed for almost six hours.
