Franklin County, WA (November 8, 2021)– A pickup driver has lost his life following a crash on Highway 395 Sunday morning.
The man was trying to secure his load on his truck along the side of the highway when a passing pickup truck hit and killed him in the process.
The Washington State Patrol identified the victim as 46-year-old Andres Trujilla.
The Sunnyside man was driving a Dodge Ram pickup and a trailer and had pulled over at the southbound shoulder of the highway, some 11 miles north of Pasco, before the collision.
A Ford pickup hauling a trailer then hit Trujilla.
Trujilla died before he was rushed to hospital while his passenger had no injuries.
The WSP gave the name of the Ford driver as Darrell Slippy, 79, of Pasco.
Slippy left the scene after the crash. Investigators were able to identify him but said drugs or alcohol were not a factor in the accident.
The investigation is ongoing to unravel the cause of the collision, WSP said.
The incident occurred just before 11 a.m on Sunday.
