Two Hospitalized After Suspected DUI Crash Near Toppenish

Toppenish, WA (April 22, 2022) – Two people were hospitalized following a suspected DUI crash at Highway 97 roundabout near Toppenish, Washington State Patrol said.

The single-vehicle crash occurred around 5:25 p.m. Thursday and disrupted traffic in the affected area for close to four hours.

33-year-old Luis Garcia, of Yakima, was driving his Subaru Legacy when he failed to slow down at a roundabout in the area.

Garcia then struck the center island and rolled over, WSP said in a statement.

Garcia and his passenger, 33-year-old Jesus Arechiga, of Pasco, were rushed to Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital.

Both were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash but Garcia faces a potential DUI charge, officials said.
